Welcome!

I'm Abby Shifriss
Birth Doula

I am a birth doula and childbirth educator who believes that everyone should have access to support on their reproductive journeys. I support birthing people and their families so they can have informed, empowered, positive birthing experiences.

Empowered, Informed, Supported

Birth is a transformative life event that deserves to be uniquely yours. Whether you plan on birthing in a hospital, birth center or your home—I’m here for you! I love empowering my clients to tap into their own wisdom as well as consult evidence-based information. I believe that there is space for both science and intuition in the birth space and I’m here to support you in finding your own vision and embracing your own power as you bring your baby earth-side. With a depth of knowledge, years of experience, a passion for birth justice, a knack for vibes and an intuitive touch – just call me your birth fairy! I may be the doula for you.

About

Originally from Bloomington, Indiana—I spent the last 9 years living in Fort Collins, Colorado before making my way to Sacramento where I’m so happy to continue nurturing my calling in birth work. As a former teacher at a Waldorf preschool, I have a very special place in my heart for providing well-rounded support to families. Part of that journey is getting to know any partners, children or other family members of my clients. It also means understanding the systems in which we exist and bringing a holistic and adaptable approach to your care. As a doula, my support can be physical, emotional, mental, educational, logistical, spiritual, advocacy or all of the above. My goal is to meet you where you’re at and provide unbiased, comprehensive, trauma-informed and evidence-based information so you can have true informed consent on your birthing journey! I trust that all birthing people have a fountain of wisdom within and that babies are very wise too. It’s an honor to walk alongside my clients as they tap into this aspect of themselves and greet their little ones. Accessibility and inclusivity are core values of mine and I believe that everyone should have access to a doula! I’m also all about you finding a doula that feels like the right fit for you, so if you’re looking for a doula with some shared interests, values, identities etc., here’s a bit more about me. I love nature and am very outdoorsy. I’m Jewish, neurodivergent, crafty and very close with my family. I have a partner and a dog who I love very much. I love to travel, read, practice yoga, garden and see live music. I’m also a meditation guide and love incorporating meditation, story and energy work into my doula role when clients are interested. Hear from my families

“Abby is incredible. She was our doula in December at the birth of our first child. We had essentially zero experience with babies and knew nothing about the birth experience, and she guided us through it all. She met us exactly where we were at, helped me realize what I wanted at my son’s birth, and made it happen. Notably, I felt really disconnected from a lot of the birth stories and preferences I had heard about, and she was completely open and non judgemental in helping me talk through and realize what type of birth I wanted. During my pregnancy, she was always available, like an insanely knowledgeable friend. And during the birth, she was a calming presence, helped guide us, and made the room into the Icelandic birth cave of my dreams. I felt just like myself, doing this powerful thing, with a friend by my side. If you hire Abby, you will not be disappointed!!”

"Abby is a one-of-kind doula! The first time I worked with her I instantly loved her, and completely understood why my client picked her. As a provider, I wholeheartedly recommend Abby as a doula for anyone who is looking for evidence-based, empathetic, holistic, and compassionate care. I think Abby is one of those people who can truly meet people where they are; holds no judgement or preconceptions, and instead provides the care the client needs in those vulnerable moments. This is hard to find in a human and a doula. It always brings me peace when Abby is present as my client’s doula because I know they’re well supported both emotionally and physically. I really cannot recommend her enough. If you’re on the fence about hiring her as your doula, look no further and book her! You’ll thank yourself now and later!"

“Words cannot express how grateful I am to have had Abby by my side for the birth of my son. She intuitively knew exactly what I needed in each moment and was there with empowering affirmations, loving touch, gentle movement, and nourishment. Abby held us in such tenderness and genuine compassion. I am forever grateful ❤️”
